Cyanotyping with Ame Hunter

5.4.19

11-12 or 12-1

We are super excited to be hosting another Craft Series Workshop! This time we are cyanotyping with Ame Hunter.

Cyanotyping is a photographic printing process developed way back in 1842. Initially used as quick and inexpensive means of reproducing architectural drawing (BLUE prints) and photographs, now it is primarily used by artists.

The process of creating a cyanotype print is fairly straightforward: the material to be printed on is coated with a light sensitive solution, allowed to dry and then exposed to ultraviolet light. Where the sunlight touches the solution changes color to cyan(blue) and where the light is blocked during exposure, the solution is washed out and the surface retains its original color.

While the process can be used to print on any natural material (paper, fabric, leather, even egg shells) in our workshop we will be printing on paper and fabric. Each participant will make an 8 1/12 x 11 paper print and two 17 x 17 cotton scarves.

After a brief explanation of the process we will experiment with compositions before doing our final layouts and taking our pieces outside to expose them in the sunlight. A brief rinse with water will wash out the solution and everyone can take their beautiful artwork home. Natural materials such as leaves, flowers, feathers and plants will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring anything they would like to experiment with printing such as film negatives, lace, keys or any other small objects with an interesting shape.

Cost: $25 per 1 hour workshop

a new space on a historic street

Sangha (Song-ah) is the Sanskrit word for community. We aim to establish a safe space for individuals and the community to grow mindfully together through the practice of Yoga, Ayurveda, and conscientious buying.

How do we do that?

Yoga
We offer safe, thoughtful yoga classes for the beginner and seasoned yogi. Because we have a number of classes to choose from, we know you'll find a teacher who speaks to you. In addition to classes, we offer childcare.

Ayurveda:
Dive into India's 5,000-year-old medicine through workshops and personal consultations. Learn how to balance your life with this preventative medicine.

Shoppe
At Sangha, we strive to connect the community by supporting local artists, farmers and companies. We believe if you're going to invest your money in something, it's important to be mindful about it. When we're not able to source our merchandise from our area, we make sure the companies we support share our love for awareness, sustainability and community growth.
